Drama CDs Shiritsu Horitsuba Gakuen

堀鐔 (Horitsuba), short for 私立堀鐔学園 (Shiritsu Horitsuba Gakuen), Horitsuba Private High School, [nb 1] it's a series of Drama CDs released in the annex of the Shonen Magazine and Young Magazine since 2006.
Before having an Anime version, some mangas have "Drama CDs". In these, they might tell the story of the manga itself or secondary/independent stories. In Tsubasa ~RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE's case, it's different since there is no drama of the manga itself, but of the Horitsuba Gakuen (Horitsuba Private Institute), a sort of alternate universe to both Tsubasa ~RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE~ and xxxHOLiC (hence the name: Horitsuba, formed by parts of the phonetics of the series' names, HORIkku and TSUBAsa), where the characters of both series appear in the quiet and peaceful Horitsuba Private Institute.
Horitsuba, up until the moment, includes four Drama CDs, a little omake appeared in the "Internet Radio Magazine" three omakes in a special number of Shounen Magazine (Magazine SPECIAL). With an original script by Ageha Ohkawa, the CDs were sold only with the Shônen Magazine or the Young Magazine (they cannot be found on stores). The seiyuus are the same (since there already were anime of both series), but the music is totally independent to its animes.
The Horitsuba Gakuen saga narrates an independent story compared to TRC and Holic. Situated in a private campus like the "CLAMP Campus" where there was study centers for all ages (from preschool through college), and even leisure and services. Among the thousand students it's housing, we find Syaoran (an exchange student), Sakura, Watanuki, Domeki, Himawari and both Mokonas.
The teachers are Fye, as a chemistry teacher, Kurogane as a gym teacher, and Yuko as a literature teacher (also the director).

After a brief presentation of the Mokonas about the Horitsuba Gauken, the gigantic student campus with all needs and services required, the drama starts with Syaoran talking with Sakura, who tells her the next day is February 14th, St. Valentine's day. Syaoran, being an exchange student, was not related with the idea of giving chocolate until now.
Pretty lost by this issue, ends up asking Watanuki (from his same class) although Doumeki needs him and therefore leaves him without an answer. His next move is to ask the Mokonas (Soel, black is a guy; Larg, white is a girl). Nevertheless Fye (chemistry teacher) interrupts their conversation by jumping out the window and stays to taste Syaoran's lunch. Fye asks the gym teacher, Kurogane to help Syaoran with his query, but Kurogane tells him it's a conspiracy of the salesmen, which leaves Syaoran even more lost.
Himawari notices that Syaoran is a bit lost and tells him there is a lot of girls putting their lives on the line that day with chocolate. Yuko, the literature teacher gets into the window and confirms his fears: the Japanese St. Valentine's day is a terryfing day. Conspirations and deadly-fights among girls with chocolates. Now Syaoran understands the meaning of this day and worries about Sakura getting hurt.
And so the long-awaited day arrives. The Mokonas realize that Syaoran has swallowed the whole chocolate when a lot of fangirls run at Syaoran to give him their chocolate. Finally arriving to class, he tells Watanuki he has fought against them, since the chocolates are weapons, it may not be a good idea to eat those. Himawari gives her chocolates to Watanuki, Doumeki and the Mokonas. Sakura offers hers to Syaoran, while he has to make a hard choice but accepts her chocolate, offering to fight for her in the Valentine's day battle, since Seishirou-san taught him martial arts and they might be useful. Sakura is amazed by this, while Fye and Yuko are having fun watching the couple. Kurogane opposes to this "despictable act" calling them a "demon" and a "witch". Thus ends another happy day in Horitsuba Campus, while Yuko thinks of a way to punish Kurogane.

After a brief presentation by the Mokonas about the Horitsuba Gakuen, we hear Syaoran, Sakura, Watanuki and Doumeki talking about the hot and humid summer in Japan, and about the activities the institute will hold for the summer festival: Sakura and Watanuki will bring a formalized proposal to professor Kurogane with the activity held on their two classes :B and C, during the festival.
This activity turns out to be a maid cafe, although Yuko, the director (entering through the window) proposing to "innovate the concept", like for example, making the boys to go as maids too, which traumatizes Watanuki (who imagined Doumeki dressed as a maid) and Kurogane who also has to deal with professor Fye who wants to get dressed too.
Coming back from the meeting about the activity's proposal, Sakura and Watanuki believe they saw Syaoran down the hallway, so Watanuki tells her to run and catch up with him and that he'll go to class to get both their backpacts and then will give them back in the exit. Sakura follows Syaoran, but when she turns the last corner, he has disapeared. At last Sakura reaches the door and finds him there with Watanuki, and they all go home.
Next day everyone is working with the preparations of the Cafe. Watanuki argues with Doumeki about his boring black sign, and sends him with Sakura to get brighter colors. Syaoran wants to join them, but has to stay while Himawari is fitting him. Nevertheless, while they get the paint cans, they think they saw Syaoran again in the hallway, but coming back to class, he hasn't moved from there at all.
Before Sakura and Syaoran get to talk about it, Fye calls him to the teacher room. Sakura gets upset about what's happening and when everyone asks what might happen, Yuko the director appears and tells them it might be a doppelgänger, a person's double, identical to him, saying that if this one and its original meet each other, that person dies. This alarms everybody, and in a state of panic Watanuki, Doumeki, Sakura, Soel and Larg run towards the teachers' room.
They reach him, tell Syaoran to run, he's about to die, but they both meet and nothing happens. They are all paralized, when Syaoran tells them it's only his twin brother who's moving in the Institute too.
Thus the misunderstanding resolves and they all decide to make a welcome party to Syaoran's brother.

In this case it's not a "Drama CD" but a little omake, 5 pages long written by CLAMP, published in the Internet Radio Magazine Komugikotoride no Yonshimin, a compilation of the radio show that they themselves host: Komugikotoride no Yonshimin.
Sakura and Watanuki have a radio show in the Horitsuba Institute, and they play songs (such as the "Amurita", the Tsubasa Chronicle Movie's ending sang by Yui Makino) by the public's request, and answer emails. One student's question is what will the classes B and C will do for the arts festival in fall. The classes are still deciding, but Watanuki proposes that Sakura should sing, she blushes though, thinking that Tomoyo-chan from class A would do much better. Yuko and Fye, in Kurogane's office are hearing the show, and director Yuko thinks it would be cool, and is planning for the teachers to participate in it too.
Fye cries to the director while they hear the next song that will play is "Zankou" (Kurogane's vocal song in the Tsubasa Chronicle anime sung by Tetsu Inada) Kurogane freezes and it turns out that Fye recorded him singing while having a shower. Kurogane kicks the chemistry teacher, and thus ends another peaceful day in the Horitsuba Institute.

Following the brief presentation by the Mokonas about the Horitsuba Gakuen, the teachers Fye and Kurogane are meeting inside director Yuko's office. Yuko realized it's a quiet day and so decides to make up a game to annoy her two colleagues, Fye and Kurogane.
Yuko summons her students after class, and after having mocked Watanuki, asks them to help her organize the game of the treasure quest in the which the teachers will be participating. Yuko wants them to give out the "clues" in order to find the treasure, which is something very important to Fye-sensei...
The night falls and the teachers have reached the scenario of this show. Yuko has threatened them to reduce the budgets of the departments, so they can't run. Kurogane is wearing a track-suit while Fye wears a shirt and jeans. This shirt had dropped a button, which Fye sew up with Kurogane's dressing case. Kurogane then starts complaining about the director, who then speaks up using the speakers of the high school. Yuko warns them that she's hearing and watching everything, later sends them off on the treasure quest. The key for the quest is "the most important thing for Fye-sensei", something she acquired without his consent. She's also imposing some conditions: if they can't find the treasure in less than an hour, they both will become into her private servants for a month.
The first clue for them, is Yuko's: "the treasure is something that, being the same, is still different".
The first to greet the two contestants are the Mokonas, who come up with a crazy riddle about an angel and a demon called Lulu and Lala. Fye works it out at once, while Kurogane can't understand a single thing (and keeps wondering about it)
The next clue is given by Watanuki and Doumeki in the kitchen classroom. The task consists on finding out which of the two kakuni manjuu has mustard on it... and eat it. Watanuki apologizes and Kurogane "goes for it". He nailed it and ate the right one.
The next clue is in the music classroom, where Sakura and Himawari will do a musical dictation that the teachers must guess. Kurogane doesn't know a thing about about music, so Fye gives it a try and gives out the right answer, since he was always aside someone who played the piano.
The last clue is waiting for them in the gym, where they find the twins Syaoran and Syaoron. Syaoron who is in the basketball club is teaching his brother to throw correctly, since he's in the soccer team, and though they are physically the same, their personalities are different. All of a sudden, the lights go out!
Something is falling out in the ground and then the lights come back, to find that Fye is lying unconscious in the ground. Syaoran wants to stop the quest and tell Doctor Seishirou, though Yuko keeps with the countdown with the last 5 minutes. Kurogane comes to the conclusion that the treasure is teacher Fye himself.
It turns out that it was Yuuy, Fye's twin brother who was swapped during the blackout. Kurogane explains the things that drove him to that conclusion and the one button in the shirt that helped him realize it was not him. Meanwhile the students and the director are having a banquet thanks to Watanuki's food, who is praised by his future teacher, Yuuy, the new kitchen arts teacher. This all adds up to more alcohol and the pursuing between Kurogane and Fye. Thus ends one more peaceful day in Horitsuba.

Another omake is added to the list: 5-pages long, published in one of Shounen Magazine's special issue, Magazine Dragon, its first issue published on December 12, 2007.
The omake shows us how Yuuy teaches an extracurricular gastronomy class, as gratitude for all that the Horitsuba students went through with the search of the treasure game. At class, each one is at their own mess. Watanuki is frustrated with Doumeki's uselessness in the kitchen, who says it's his thing to eat, not cook, and the Mokonas baking the cake with all their love. Sakura also wants Syaoran to taste the cake he's baking, and along these two lovebirds, Syaoron has a great time.
Watanuki finishes his dessert and it turns out as a superb cake that Professor Yuuy doesn't doubt to praise. The Mokonas in turn reply that Watanuki could be a chef or a cook, though it's Himawari who knows which is the best job for Watanuki (a housewife)! Apart from this, Watanuki has to deal with Doumeki, who is stuffing the cake he's done, while Sakura hands over Syaoran a lovely cake dedicated to him.
His brother Syaoron gets him to blush when he reminded him that she made it especially for him. Yuuy asks if he's sure of leaving them both to themselves; and Syaoron approves. It's that they both know how hard it is to be twins (besides, they both are "the brain" of these brother couples) because Fye also has his issues, as standing next to the principal Yuko waiting for the ideal moment to attack Yuuy and the students, and take over the cakes. As always, they're bringing Kurogane-sensei.
Another peaceful day in Horitsuba High School.

Horitsuba Private High School: Excited for Celebrating New Years!

This omake shows us the Horitsuba crew celebrating New Years according to many traditional customs in the nipon country, many which surprise Yuuy, who's only been a while in the country. Yuuy then learns which is the typical food in New Years and to store it in the boxes called "Jyuubako", which brings good luck for the New Year, as repeating one of the dishes, the "zouni".
Doumeki doesn't mind all this, and he just keeps eating and repeating dishes as much as he can. The tradition also says that everything must be prepared the days prior as to rest during the first days of the year. However...
Watanuki does nothing else other than working on New Years serving the diners who are having a banquet in the Principal Yuko's office at the Institute. Watanuki complains and Yuko says he'd rather be glad that they're all together, especially because like this they all can be together in kimonos. Sakura blushes and tells Syaoran that the kimono fits him well. He's embarrased and tells her it's not his credit, but his brother's, who also helped Yuuy.
Fye is missing at the party and later makes a grand entrance, shocking everyone because he's wearing a woman's kimono (a Furisode)!!! The girls approach to fangirl the teacher, while Kurogane, indignatly complains to Yuko, asking her to not encourage him to do strange things in front of the students like he always does. Yuko, in turn, says she's innocent because she only loaned him the kimono... the one who helped him wear it was... Syaoron, who pleads guilty. Kurogane is left broken after finding out the enabler of this incident.
Like this, Fye and Yuko end up making fun of the teacher's kimono, while everyone else laughs and stares, and poor Kurogane feels embarrased by him, while Yuuy only pities him in this peaceful New Year's Day in Horitsuba.
Shiritsu Horitsuba Gakuen 4Edit
Horitsuba Private High School: Wait until after school lunch! [nb 2]

In Shiritsu Horitsuba Gakuen 4, Watanuki, Sakura, Himawari, Syaoran, Syaoron, both Mokonas' and Domeki host a radio broad cast during Kurogane and Yuuko's lunch. The two colleagues quarral a bit about Yuuko's pouting until the broadcast starts. A little later, Yuuko makes an odd prediction about Kurogane asking what the heck was going on after lunch. The broad-cast begins with the 8 students introducing themselves and Watanuki and Domeki having a little quarral. After a few inturruptions by the two adults, Sakura, Himawari and the White Mokona introduce special guests on the radio. Fai-sensei and Yuui-sensei. Kurogane seems to be extremely annoyed by this event and criticizes the twins for not preparing for their classes. Once welcomed, the students read off mails from other students of complements and questions. One of them being "You two truly look the same, so were you often mistaken for one other when you were kids?" Fai-sensei replies that they had played pranks to be purposely mixed up and continues with a demonstration of this directed to Kurogane.
After a few more goofy comments from everyone, Watanuki states that Fai and Yuui were asked by the students to read lines from two animes. One of them being Tsubasa and the other xXxHolic. Yuui declines saying he wasn't good at this sort of thing. Fai volunteers for him and succesfully reads off a line from Tsubasa volume one page 64-65 and page 118-119. After reading a few more lines, Fai passes it on to Himawari-chan telling her to read lines as well. After her turn, she passes it to the other students. Upon coming to Domeki, Watanuki requests that he does a weird one. Fai replies that the one he chose for him wasn't exactly weird but cute. These lines turn out to come from xXx Holic and is the part where Watanuki meets up with the Zashiki-Warashi for the first time. Domeki 'subconciously' reaches into Watanuki's shirt as he reads the lines. Watanuki reacts to this by spazzing out. As Kurogane and Yuuko listen to the broadcasts, Yuuko comes up with the idea of her and Kurogane doing a line. Bringing out Tsubasa, she forces Kurogane into reading Chii's line, threatning that if he doesn't collaborate, she will spread a rumor about what's under Kurogane's bed. Kurogane agrees and starts reading his lines. Yuuko scolds him because he's not in character, telling him to make it more cute. The very mortified gym teacher complies and begins reading again. After finishing, there is an awkward pause to which Fai says: "I didn't know I created Kurogane, from now you can call me daddy, or mommy is okay too!" Kurogane is very confused and it is revealed by the students that they had stuck microphones under the table. Watanuki sincerely apologizes saying it was Yuuko-sensei's idea.

This omake starts off with Yuko and Fai. Yuko says she's glad because the weather cleared up, although Watanuki's really upset because he has to work in his own party, after school and even when everyone went home. But Yuko tries cheering him up by saying that he's getting help this year from the twins (Syaoran and Syaoron), he's even more upset when he sees Doumeki munching and doing nothing else at all. Kurogane and Yuuy come with the cake, after all they're celebrating four birthdays today, on April 1st: the twins, Watanuki and Sakura. Fai yells at Kurogane saying that it's amazing that he brought the cake and not dropped it. Then Himawari and Sakura appear in bridal costumes. Syaoran blushes at the sight, Sakura feels embarrased while Watanuki compliments on Himawari for her dress
Yuko says he's got no dating experience, but Watanuki replies to her saying that he and Syaoron are the same. But Syaoron startles everyone when he says that he's dating someone, and a great silence emerges.
Syaoron continues trying not to give much attention to this subject, moving on to cut the cake. Another peaceful day in Horitsuba ends.
